Information Security Analyst Intern

DEPARTMENT: IT- Administration

WORK LOCATION:  Grand Rapids - Lettinga Campus

POSITION PAY RANGE:  $12.28, Hourly (Please note: Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, the type of role, pay equity and available funding)

SUMMARY:

The Information Security Analyst Intern assists the information security team including compliance monitoring, event monitoring, incident investigation, vulnerability analysis, and incident response. The Information Security Analyst Intern will also work closely with the ITS Information Security Team to provide support whenever necessary. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University’s mission, vision and cultural values.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitor various systems for information security policy compliance.
  2. Monitor information security events and identify those that need further investigation.
  3. Further investigate events.
  4. Coordinate with the ITS Information Security Team on vulnerability analysis, and incident response.
  5. Investigate and aid in the selection of new solutions to improve information security for the Davenport University community.
  6. Track recurring problems and recommend solutions.
  7. Follow-up with customers on calls to ensure resolution of problem and complete customer satisfaction.
  8. Document information security processes and procedures.
  9. Work closely with ITS Information Security Team to ensure compliance with Davenport University information security standards.
  10. Assist the ITS Information Security Team when needed.
  11. Generate reports, memorandums, correspondence, presentation materials, spreadsheets and graphics, and other materials using various software programs.
  12. Assists with special events and functions as needed.
  13. Handle information from various sources and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  14. Conducts special projects, research and assignments as needed.
  15. Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
  16. Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
  17. Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
  • Must be meeting Standards of Academic Progress (SAP).
  • Minimum of one year of network, PC hardware/software, and information security experience preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, related applications, and Google Workspace preferred.
  • Experience with Linux, and scripting languages preferred.
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of PC hardware and related equipment preferred.
  • Experience in support of LAN based PC environment preferred.
  • Ability to effectively plan, develop goals, meet deadlines, and accomplish goals while prioritizing workloads.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
  • Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing.  Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). 
  • Some travel between locations may be required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 35
