POSITION OVERVIEW |
The Security Specialist ensures the premises, personnel, and students are secure at all times. This position patrols the campus and monitors the surveillance equipment to prevent any breaches of security.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES |
Know all of the duties and procedures specified in the American Heritage “Safety & Security Procedures” manual and perform duties as assigned to security personnel as specified in the manual. Maintain a secure environment by patrolling assigned posts on foot or in a vehicle. Conduct roving patrols. Protect, secure, and provide assistance to the personnel, students, guests, visitors, and/or property of the school. Entry of reports. Prepare and maintain daily logs and records of incidents and hazardous conditions. Direct traffic. Issue citations for speeding, parking, and other violations of rules and regulations. Take statements from principles and witnesses of infractions and issue reports to the Director of Security. Perform traffic control to enforce speed limits. Limit access to the property by vehicles and personnel traffic. Screen employees, guests, and visitors to the school facilities by closely reviewing ID badges and other means of identification. Monitor security alarms and fire systems. Assist Principals with students during a fire evacuation, fire drills, evacuations, lockdowns, or other emergency situations. Protect property from the danger of sabotage, espionage, and intrusion. Detect and observe any unusual or abnormal conditions; assess the situation and institute emergency procedures via radio or telephone. Act to prevent further destruction or loss of property, protect people, or overcome and apprehend persons who precipitated the emergency. Monitor the visitor sign-in/sign-out log; record the visitor’s name, address, and place visited and direct them to the appropriate office or arrange for escorts when needed. Maintain radio communication with other Security Specialists and the Director of Security. Relay messages and dispatch patrols and equipment to meet routine and emergency situations.
