Position Purpose:

The Safety and Security Specialist will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for the corporate offices. Reporting to the HR Manager, this position focuses on proactive safety measures, such as patrolling the grounds, monitoring activity, addressing potential risks, responding to security incidents or emergencies, and enforcing security procedures and policies. This role requires vigilance, professionalism, and a collaborative approach to security management.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor the premises for security breaches or suspicious activity through the surveillance cameras.
  2. Conduct routine patrols of the corporate office premises, including parking lots, building entrances, and common areas.
  3. Manage access to the building, including verifying identification, issuing visitor badges, and escorting visitors to their destinations when necessary.
  4. Respond appropriately to emergencies by contacting medical assistance, law enforcement, or other relevant parties as needed.
  5. Maintain accurate records of visitors, incidents, and completed paperwork, ensuring all documentation is timely and precise.
  6. Assist visitors by answering questions and providing directions to their destinations.
  7. Issue parking passes to authorized employees or visitors and enforce parking regulations, including arranging the towing of vehicles parked illegally.
  8. Identify potentially unsafe systems, processes, or situations and report them promptly to the appropriate management level.
  9. Provide front desk reception coverage during the receptionist’s lunch period or other absences, including greeting and directing visitors and answering phone calls professionally.
  10. Investigate incidents such as theft, vandalism, or other security breaches and report findings appropriately.
  11. Offer support to corporate office departments and staff on safety and security-related matters.
  12. Participate in safety and security audits and inspections to assess compliance and recommend improvements.
  13. Stay informed about new security trends and policies, attending necessary training to enhance skills and maintain up-to-date knowledge.
  14. Conduct weekly safety inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Prepare and submit a detailed monthly safety report with findings and recommendations.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  1. Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces.
  2. Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift. 
  3. Must be able to kneel, squat, bend for any duration of time and run if needed.
  4. Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties, including lift or carry up to 50 lbs. 
  5. Constant use of hands, arms and fingers in reaching/handling/grasping while using radio, phone, notepad, writing reports and other administrative tasks.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum high school diploma or equivalency
  2. Two years’ experience in security, safety monitoring or customer service environment.
  3. Experience handling confidential documents and detail oriented.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  6. Must be able to maintain composure and handle stressful situations with professionalism.
  7. Strong observational skills with attention to detail.
  8. Security or safety training (e.g., de-escalation techniques, crisis prevention) is preferred.
