Position Overview

We are seeking a Physical Security Specialist to join our team to help contribute to our success and help us solve problems with innovation through intelligence.

The PHYSEC Specialist provides direct support and assistance in the day-to-day physical, personnel, industrial, and information security of the customer facilities and all classified and collateral activities held within and provides guidance and assistance to assigned personnel, subordinate units, and visitors when necessary.

 

Duties include, but not limited to:

Information Security. (6%)

  • Defense Courier Service (DCS) / Accountable Mail: Manages all distribution systems such as U.S. Postal Service, FedEx, or official courier used to disseminate sensitive unclassified material. Prepares and coordinates sensitive unclassified packages for shipping and accounts for all unclassified packages received through approved systems.

PHYSEC. (64%)

  • Facility Access. Staffs the Visitor Control Center (Front Desk) of KAFB facility, verifies credentials of personnel entering the unclassified areas of the facility, matches visit requests / student rosters and issues access badges as appropriate.
  • Visitor Access. Performs secret-level access verification of all visitors and ensures current facility occupants are cognizant of each visitor’s access prior to allowing entrance into the facility in accordance with established local procedures.
  • Random Entry / Exit Inspections. Performs and documents random inspections of all hand carried items being brought into or removed from the unclassified area to prevent the introduction of prohibited items into the facility and unauthorized removal of information.
  • Facility Access Control / Alarm System. Assists in the maintenance of the systems, processes and procedures to ensure U.S. Government information and assets are protected within the unclassified spaces within the facility. This includes automated access control systems, alarm systems, badge systems and electronic access listings as appropriate.
  • Alarm Activation Response. Notifies appropriate personnel on alarm response lists (which includes 24-hour and / or after hour response) for alarm activations, facility security issues and confirmation of alarm system operation after power failure.
  • Controlled Area / Facility Inspections. As a minimum, conduct monthly random inspections inside and around the exterior of Controlled Areas; and confiscate, document and dispose of prohibited items brought into the facility.
  • Closed Circuit Television System. Monitors the closed-circuit television system for open areas during daily and / or emergency situations to facilitate safety and security of personnel.

Exercise / Event Security Support. (6%)

  • Exercise / Event Security Support. Provides similar security support during exercises / events; this support is in addition to the normal workday.

Qualifications

Clearance

  • Current DOD Secret Clearance

Years of Experience

  • 4 year’s relevant experience (2 specialized)

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to work as a team member, communicate, perform office functions and use office tools, customer focus and deliver exceptional performance, and knowledge of SAP processes
  • Ability to perform administrative physical security and personnel security functions and ad hoc duties as appropriate
  • Skilled in using limited JPAS access to conduct security verifications in support of visitor control
  • Knowledge of security management, information security, personnel security, access control, and physical security
