Standard Qualifications for Position
1. Bachelor’s degree and relevant technical experience or experience in the field of education desired (or technical degree with additional experience).
2. A minimum of five years of hands-on work experience as a network administrator supporting network infrastructure, preferably in an educational setting.
3. Vendor certifications such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, Aruba Broadcom/VMware, CompTIA or Microsoft are preferred.
4. Required experience with configuring and troubleshooting Enterprise Routing and Switching, Enterprise Wireless Networking, and AAA/Identity Management systems.
5. Extensive knowledge of the following technologies: NGFW appliances, Wireless Controllers, Access Points, EDR/XDR technologies, NAC and Virtualization.
6. Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Exchange/Exchange Online, Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID/Azure, TCP/IP, DHPC, DNS, Load Balancers, UPS, Vulnerability Management and
enterprise back-up software.
7. Ability to work with network cabling and connections. Provision, maintain and decommission virtual servers and hosts. Configure, deploy and maintain network devices such as switches, routers
and firewalls.
8. Possess excellent hardware, software and network troubleshooting skills.
9. Understanding of VOIP protocols and technologies.
10. Understanding of streaming media and protocols.
11. Ability to deal with frequent interruptions.
12. Works effectively with users on all levels, communicating clearly and maintaining a strong work ethic.
13. Handles simultaneous projects, sets priorities, and reacts spontaneously to critical troubleshooting situations.
14. Tact, patience, poise, and positive attitude in handling public/user contacts.
15. Ability to impart knowledge and confidence to staff that may be unfamiliar with new applications or technologies, as well as those requesting help.
Performance Responsibilities
1. Responsible for LAN, WAN, wireless and datacenter infrastructure.
2. Responsible for management of District managed networks by:
• Supporting a multi-homed Internet environment
• Supporting network security, filtering, firewall, etc.
• Planning, installing, and maintaining user-facing connections
• Improving efficiency by defining standards and automating tasks
• Coordinating upgrades and patches to supported environments
• Resolving technical issues related to District managed networks
3. Develop and maintain all district networking documentation and network schematics.
4. Review all District managed network designs on a regular basis and make recommendations for changes based upon District needs using current and emerging trends in the data communications
field.
5. Manage an IP address plan for all District managed networks. Allocate IP addresses as needed. This shall include IPv4, IPv6, multicast addresses, etc.
6. Apply District policies and constantly monitor user practices to ensure the security of the network and all network resources.
7. Perform regular vulnerability scans on systems and networks. Evaluate potential threats and apply vulnerability mitigation.
8. Follow established procedures for documenting all modifications to the network infrastructure.
9. Set goals and manage projects related to the network.
10. Identify and solve issues related to the network and communicate to appropriate staff.
11. Consult with the IT staff to assist them in resolving issues, concerns, and equipment failures.
12. Maintain excellent working relationships with all network users and all members of the IT Team.
13. Work effectively with network users on all levels, communicating clearly, and maintaining a strong work ethic.
14. Manage simultaneous projects and react spontaneously to critical troubleshooting situations.
15. Impart technical knowledge and confidence to students, staff, and other network users.
16. Accept additional duties and assignments as assigned.
Terms of Employment
Full-time, salaried position, subject to Supervisors and Confidential Employees Compensation Agreement.
