Job Description

The Associate Training Specialist, under general supervision, is responsible for training various specialty skilled and/or semi-skilled courses within the Cybersecurity Program. Responsible for utilizing knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. Performs online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or provides technical assistance in Cybersecurity. Uses a variety of media to present course material. Assists with creating new and/or updating curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs. **This position is open to remote employee work.**

This position reports to the Program Director of Business and Cyber Solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Five years of experience in Cybersecurity or Information Technology.

  • Two years of adult education and/or training.

Required Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology/Security discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Six or more years of experience in IT and systems administration focused on information security, auditing, and/or compliance.

  • Current industry certification such as CISSP, CISM, Network +, Security +.

  • Six or more years of experience in developing cybersecurity policies, industry regulations, and/or cybersecurity best practices in government and/or industry.

  • Two or more years of experience identifying, analyzing, and mitigating security vulnerabilities and weaknesses (malicious code, implementation flaws, etc.). Identifying cyber-attack vectors and actors (new vulnerabilities, attacks, exploits, etc.)

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to regularly use computer/keyboard.

  • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day.

  • Physical conditioning consistent with movement of light to moderately weighted training equipment, wearing personal protective equipment during instruction as needed, designing, developing, and deploying curriculum for classroom and online training delivery.

  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Recent knowledge of cybersecurity policies and procedures, best practices, tools, exercise design and evaluation, emergency response planning, or emergency management training.

  • Working knowledge in Cybersecurity.

  • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.

  • Ability to present course material using a wide variety of media and technology.

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Notifications:

  • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.

  • As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.

  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.

  • This position allows telecommuting per TEEX guidelines.

  • This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the grant and/or contract. Therefore, the position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: 

Classroom Instruction - 75%

  • Provides Classroom Instruction for the NERRTC Cyber Program.

  • Instructs cybersecurity courses and provides technical assistance for cyber clients.

  • Prepares training materials, training aids, and/or equipment prior to the course.

  • Ensures classrooms are ready for participants.

  • Ensures concerned parties, points of contact, host organization, agencies, are contacted and notified of schedules, locations, and times.

  • Ensures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course.

  • Ensures training materials, training aids, and classrooms are secured upon completion of the course.

  • Arrives at a minimum of 1 hour before the course is scheduled to begin to ensure the room is set up and to greet arriving participants.

  • Follows approved curriculum course outline and timelines.

  • Performs all course exercises as explained by Instructor Guide.

  • Maintains subject matter expertise on topics of instruction.

  • Conducts hot wash debrief with the instructional team, as applicable, to determine delivery areas of improvement.

Customer Relations - 10%

  • Promotes teamwork with the instructor cadre.

  • Positively interacts with fellow staff, wage instructors, external and internal customers.

  • Actively works with wage instructors to promote instructor continuity.

  • Maintains currency and knowledge of cybersecurity and other materials related to course delivery.

  • Participates in other TEEX/Business Cyber Solution programs and initiatives as directed.

Course Materials Development & Updates – 10%

  • Actively participates in the updating and revising of a course as a team member in the curriculum processes.

  • Reviews new instructional materials as they become available to determine relevance with current courses.

Program Support – 5%

  • Ensures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division Guidance, Agency and Contractual requirements (if applicable).

  • Assists the Training Manager/Coordinator with customer interactions.

  • Submits weekly reports and all associated documentation on time.

  • Submits class reports, and travel documentation.

  • Assists in the marketing of division programs and events to potential customers and students.

  • Ensures requests for travel and post travel claim documentation are completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with division and agency guidance.

  • May participate in conference activities and if exhibiting, assist with booth set up and operations, and provide potential business contact information to management.

  • Attends all called meetings unless dismissed by supervisor.

Additional Program/Division Responsibilities:

  • Participates in professional development opportunities.

  • Maintains involvement with Agency Initiatives (CoP’s, etc.)

  • Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property.

  • Maintains a professional appearance.

  • Maintains an orderly and clean workspace.

  • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
