    POSITION: Critical Incident Stress Management School Specialist (CISM)- Support

     

    REPORTS TO: Director of Whole Child Services

     

    EMPLOYER: Mattawan Consolidated School (Internal candidates only)

     

    SUMMARY: A district CISM School Specialist supports crisis events both with intervention work, as well as prevention.  During a critical incident, the CISM School Specialist (Support) assists efforts to prepare, organize, and execute the response, as well as provide follow-up support.  During prevention work, the position entails attending meetings and training.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

     
    • Masters in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology

    • Trained in the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) model

    • Experience with conducting debriefings in a school setting

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

     
    • Attend School Specialist meetings offered by CISD/KRESA (two times per year)

    • Attend relevant training to enhance knowledge and leadership of CISM

    • Consult with county CISM consultant and other agencies (as needed)

    • Help School Specialist Lead to provide training and facilitate meetings within the district

    • Consult with School Specialist Lead as soon as possible after knowledge of a crisis

    • Prepare, organize, and lead critical incidents (per district plan) in the event School Specialist Lead is unavailable

    • Maintain confidentiality

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

     

    Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, must be able to see and hear the entire classroom, and moving light furniture may be required. 

     

    SAFETY AND HEALTH: 

     

    Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions. 

     

    EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS HANDLED: 

     

    Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. 

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

     

    Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Job responsibilities may include both inside and outside duties. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After-hours work may be required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
