What you'll be doing

The IT Security Specialist position is a member of the Spokane Regional Health District’s (SRHD) Information Technology (IT) team. The position assists the IT Security Analyst with ongoing security efforts including data loss prevention, system security configuration and management, identity protection and more. Occasionally, this position will assist with IT-related tasks, which may include desktop, server, network support, and district wide cybersecurity training.  This position performs duties that require discretion when preparing, disclosing, and handling information that is confidential, controversial, or sensitive in nature. This role may communicate and maintain confidential records, be privy to information and documentation that require discretion including sensitive information with respect to employer-employee relations during negotiations processes. This role only requests or provides access for relevant confidential information needed to perform this role and responsibilities. The duties include exercising judgment and discretion in accordance with the parameters set by leadership.

Some Essential Functions Include:

  • Assists with the development and implementation of comprehensive security policies within Microsoft 365, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP) strategies, Microsoft Defender for Identity (MDI) configurations, and Insider Risk Management protocols. Provides insight to support that these policies are tailored to the organization’s needs and compliance requirements, and in collaboration with the IT team regularly review and update them to address emerging threats and changes in the security landscape.
  • Provides support to IT leadership during security incident investigations and response activities. Helps gather evidence, analyze data, and coordinate with various teams to manage and mitigate security incidents effectively.
  •  Researches and provides insight and recommendations on current security best practices.
  • Supports IT security policy and procedure development.

What we need from you

Required Qualifications:

  • An Associate of Arts degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Systems, or related field.
  • A minimum of three years of hands-on technical experience in cybersecurity, with a proven track record of implementing, managing, and securing critical systems and networks.
  • Certification in one of the following: CompTIA Security+, GIAC GISF, or similar certification from another accrediting body.
  • Valid motor vehicle license and current auto insurance or the ability to access multiple sites in a timely manner.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and certification may be considered provided the individual’s background demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to areas such as threat detection and response, vulnerability management, network security, and endpoint protection, as well as knowledge of security frameworks, risk management, and compliance requirements.
