Program Description:
The National Weather Service (NWS) Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Radar Operations Center (ROC) in Norman, Oklahoma, is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and modernization of the NEXRAD radar network, which is essential for the U.S.'s weather monitoring and forecasting. The ROC provides 24/7 technical support, oversees upgrades, and collaborates with research institutions and government agencies to enhance radar technology. It also manages the dissemination of critical radar data used for weather forecasting and severe weather alerts, ensuring the continued accuracy and reliability of this vital national infrastructure.
 
We are seeking a highly skilled Security Specialist / System Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing complex computer systems and networks, providing both security expertise and system administration. This role will involve configuring, maintaining, and securing a variety of hardware and software systems to ensure the integrity and security of the ROC’s IT infrastructure.
 
Job Responsibilities:
·        Maintain and configure next generation border and host based firewalls (hardware and software) to safeguard the network, implementing and managing advanced security features.
·        Establish and maintain authentication servers to control access to network resources, ensuring the highest levels of security.
·        Perform configuration management of network equipment to support consistent and secure network performance.
·        Administer Windows and Linux Operating Systems with expertise, providing troubleshooting, updates, and continuous optimization.
·        Monitor and enhance security through tools such as IDS/IPS, Nessus, Tenable Security Center, and Checkpoint firewalls to identify and mitigate security threats.
·        Lead initiatives to support IP V6 integration, managing border security and firewall setups.
·        Install, maintain, and upgrade both hardware and software systems, including system backup management to ensure data integrity and disaster recovery readiness.
·        Document technical processes and procedures, providing clear and comprehensive technical reports, diagrams, and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
·        Provide system administration for complex computer systems, ensuring the performance, reliability, and security of both hardware and software components.
·        Integrate and configure network devices such as switches and routers with a focus on maintaining robust network configurations.
·        Collaborate with team members to support network design, upgrades, and expansion across multiple network types.

Job Requirements:
·        Experience with firewalls (hardware and software), intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and network security tools like Nessus, Tenable Security Center, and Check Point firewalls.
·        Familiarity with IP V6 protocol and advanced networking configurations.
·        Experience establishing and managing authentication servers and border security solutions.
·        Advanced knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems, with demonstrated proficiency in maintaining and securing these environments.
·        Specialized certifications (such as CISSP, CompTIA Security+, CCNA, or similar) and/or advanced degrees in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related fields are highly desirable.
·        Proven experience working with multiple network types and managing network device integration.
·        Strong technical writing and presentation skills, with the ability to produce detailed technical documentation.
·        Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to system and network security.
